Dutch rider Tim Wellens won the sixth segment of the prestigious Italian stage race.
For Wellens effective was the attack 70 miles to the finish of the first mountain stage of the Giro, along with two companions 25-year-old driver Lotto Soudal get the day’s break and made decisive attack on the last climb.
Behind Wellens turned the fight for the pink Jersey – the local battle was won Tom Dumoulin, preserve on their shoulders the robe of leadership. Among generalisimo idle Vincenzo Nibali, however, all attempts of the captain of “Astana” to escape from the main group were neutralized.
Tomorrow the Giro plains 211-km stage from Sulmona to Foligno. A traditional favorite of the day is considered to be Marcel Kittel, which prevent attempts compatriot Andre Greipel.
