The first President of the Republic of Slovakia, Michal Kovac, who held the highest office in 1993-1998, died October 5, in Bratislava.

“The cause of death was cardiac arrest”, – stated in the message.

Michal Kovac, who has long suffered from Parkinson’s disease, died at 87 years old.

He made history as the first President of the Republic of Slovakia.

The former President in grave condition was hospitalized on September 30 in the ICU of the clinic of the Ministry of interior of Slovakia in Bratislava.

The doctors brought him into a state of sleep therapy and connected to devices of artificial respiration.

Note, Michal Kovac was born on 5 August 1930 in the village Lubasha.

After the “velvet revolution” of 1989 held a post of the Minister of Finance of Slovakia, in June 1992, became speaker of the Federal Parliament of the CSFR.

The President of Slovakia Michal Kovac was elected after Czechoslovakia split into two sovereign countries.
