In the Ferrari decided their pilots to the tactics of three pit stops. Vettel during the race ahead of Hamilton for 13 seconds – this was clearly not enough to hold an extra stop and to be ahead of the Briton. After the last pit stop, Hamilton was ahead of Vettel in 7.4 seconds – the Germans gradually reduced the gap, but to close the distance attack failed.

Company Hamilton and Vettel on the podium of the Grand Prix of Canada was Valtteri Bottas, for the first time in the season came in the top 3. Another confident race gave young Max Verstappen, not wavering under pressure from Nico Rosberg. Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel ricciardo in Montreal performed below their capabilities.
