Former soloist of “Tatu” for the first time spoke about thyroid cancer

The former soloist of a duet “Tatu” Yulia Volkova admitted that she had thyroid cancer. About the illness of the singer told the program Oksana Pushkina “Mirror for the hero” on NTV that aired Friday, 6 February.

According to the artist, during surgery to remove the tumor damaged her vocal nerve. “When I woke up after anesthesia, was about to speak, but I just didn’t have a voice, I whispered. It was the most critical moment in my life,” explained Volkov.

The singer added that he was diagnosed with HIV in 2012, but didn’t want anyone to tell about it. She decided to undergo surgery in Germany. After that, the singer had to postpone two more, but the voice not fully recovered. Only after treatment in Seoul she was able to speak.

Volkov began his solo career in 2009 after a conflict with producer Boris Rensky. She released several singles and also starred in two movies — “You and I” and “Zомби vacation 3D”.

“Tattoo” is one of Russian pop bands who have achieved international recognition. The Duo was created in 1999; at that time its participants Julia Volkova and Lena Katina was 14-15 years old. Their singles has topped the charts in Russia, Australia, the UK, Germany, USA and other countries. Debut English single All the Things She Said took first spot in major music charts around the world. “Tattoo” is the only Russian team, which won the award for the IFPI count albums sold. After leaving Volkova, the band broke up.
