An amazing story of survival off the coast of the Okhotsk sea.
A novel about the adventures of Robinson Crusoe of Daniel Defoe has long been a classic. It is known that in the heart of the story lay a true story that happened with the Scottish sailor. Few people know that 150 years ago in Russia was almost the same story. That’s just Russian “Robinson Crusoe” appeared on the island in the African heat, and the shores of the cold sea of Okhotsk.
In the late nineteenth century (1882) in the journal “Russian antiquity” published an article about the “Russian Robinson”. It was about the gentleman and the hussar Sergei Petrovich Lisitsyn, who was left alone on the shore of the sea of Okhotsk.
Sergey Lisitsyn was listed in the life guards hussar regiment. Hot blood played with hussar cruel joke. After an unsuccessful duel Lisitsyn had become an official. Offer relative to go to Alaska Lisitsyn received with great enthusiasm and in 1847 sailed on the ship.
A temper and then ruined the trip. Being drunk, Lisitsyn was rude to the captain of the ship that landed on the shore of Buyan. After he came to, he found a note in which captain explained that for this insult, the troublemaker should be deprived of life, but he mercifully drops him off on the shore.
The captain left Lisitsyn suitcases with clothes, boots, coat, a pair of pistols, matches, a small supply of provisions and paper with writing. As someone who was born in prosperity and nothing of their own, Lisitsyn quickly settled, built a cabin, made furniture, sling and bow and arrows. Weapons, “Russian Robinson” reserved for an extreme case (in winter a man in self-defense, had to shoot 8 wolves).
After a few months of loneliness, Sergey Lisitsyn has its own “Friday” Basil. After one of the spring storms, “Robinson” saw a man lying. Is the ship on which he sailed, sprung a leak, all had to leave the ship, and his son forgotten. Fortunately, the ship turned out to be cows, sheep, oxen, and shepherds.
It should be noted that loneliness completely knocked out former hussar all down. In terms of survival men worked together. Their isolation ended when the raids began Chinese in the Amur region. Then the district began to walk warships of the Russian Empire. 7 months of solitude ended.
But this story has an end more positive than the hero of Daniel Defoe. While Sergey Lisitsyn engaged in farming, he found deposits of copper ore and gold. The government has appointed a “Robinson” Manager on these lands. So Lisitsyn lived happily ever after. Writer Alexander Sibiryakov was found with the hero after 10 years after the incident and asked him for permission to print a story about the “Russian Robinson”.
