Tickets for the Rio Olympics are bought not as fast as in the last Olympics. This writes the newspaper “Vedomosti”, citing data from experts.
So, on August 1, organizers have sold only about 79% of 6.1 million tickets for the Olympics, much less the final figures for the last two summer Olympics in London and Beijing, where sales exceeded 95%.
“I think this is an acceptable result,” – said the President of the International society of historians of the Olympic games (ISOH), noting that the percentage of Rio is already ahead of the previous summer games in Athens, Atlanta, Barcelona and Seoul, which failed to overcome the barrier of 80%.
At the same time, low demand for tickets for the Olympics, tickets and rooms in hotels associated with recession in Brazil, the epidemic of zika virus and concerns about security.
It’s also worth considering the fact that most Competitions around 75% of the tickets purchase by local residents. In the case of Brazil, on the contrary, foreigners are long and expensive to get to the country, and Brazilians are mostly like only football.
However, the organizers still hope that at the last moment, ticket sales will accelerate due to the demand from local people and some foreigners.
However, experts doubt that Rio will be able to significantly improve the result. “All visitors from abroad have already decided to go to the Games or not. From this point of view, Rio will be difficult to beat in London”, – the Director of the consulting firm Maquina do Esporte Erich Betting.
