The filmmakers of “iron curtain”, which will talk about the famous writer and people around him (about his future wife Helen, daughter, friend Joseph Brodsky, and many others), finally announced the name of the lead actor. Sergei Dovlatov was played by Serbian actor Milan Maric. Earlier, some media have expressed a similar hypothesis, but official confirmation arrived only now.

The name of the artist main role was announced producer of the project Andrey Saveliev:Finally, on the eve of the remarkable date – the 75th anniversary of the birth of the famous writer (Dovlatov was born on 4 September 1941 in Ufa – approx. ed.) and after filming tape on it, the first time you declare the name of the lead actor. Image Dovlatov realized a Serbian actor Milan Maric. The search for an actor for the main role lasted long and painful, and after numerous tests (which, it should be noted, by the time was already nine months) Alexey Herman has opted for Milan Marich. The Director noted the beauty and charm of the artist – a quality he shared with Dovlatov, along with the combination of the actor’s vulnerability and courage, passion and inner pain, strength and weakness, — everything that can enrich the image and make it sparkle with new colors”.

In the words of Milan Maric, his audition for the lead lasted for ten hours. Other roles will be played by Danila Kozlovsky (the famous Russian actor got the role of a friend of Sergei Dovlatov, a hapless writer), Elena Lyadova, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Anton Shagin and other actors, among them many foreign names.

Milan Maric said about his role:I didn’t want to do any kind of imitation Dovlatov — it would be doomed to failure, as anyone who has read Dovlatov, he made it his own idea. The only thing I could do is to immerse yourself in the emotional state, which I think he was.
