This man was the prototype of Dr. Preobrazhensky.
In 1925, Mikhail Bulgakov wrote his novel “Dog’s heart”. In the story of Professor Preobrazhensky dog transplanted human testicles and pituitary gland, causing the dog turned into a man. Ran into this idea of the writer a very real person, who conducted experiments on rejuvenation. The prototype for Professor Preobrazhensky was the Russian doctor Sergei Voronov.
The end of XIX – beginning of XX century was marked by increased interest in the idea of improving the human body and to find ways of dealing with old age. Popular among experimenters of the time was Sergei (Samuel) Abramovich ravens.
The future doctor was born in 1866 in Voronezh, and at age 18 moved to France to study medicine. The ideas then emerging transplantation swept over the young doctor. It is worth noting that in the late nineteenth century the notion of any ethics in relation to the human body disappeared. The experiments were carried out by the hundreds.
The ravens became famous for his technique of “rejuvenation” of the person by transplanting him thyroid chimpanzees. It should be noted that transplant of animal tissues was successful. Old sheep and goats became more playful. Inspired by the success, the doctor went further and began to be transplanted to wealthy people who want to rejuvenate, the testicles of executed criminals. When the demand began to exceed supply, in the course went the bodies of monkeys.
Today’s medicine proved that transplantation of tissues “close” to human animals cannot succeed, because they are rejected by the body. And in 20-e years of the last century, such operations were a great success. Sergei Voronov made about 500 such manipulations in France and several thousand in Egypt, where he practiced.

The “success” of this method is associated with several reasons. First, a minor improvement could occur because of the mobilization of the body, which has thrown all forces on struggle with a foreign body. And secondly, many worked the placebo effect, i.e. auto-suggestion.

“The method of Dr. Voronova worked about 50 surgeons at the time, and the doctor became extremely popular and rich figure, which has indulged in arrogant luxury. But time passed, and the negative effects of direct manifested more often. Every patient has any abnormalities in health and behavior. Enthusiasm is replaced by frustration over the doctor starts to taunt, and then completely forget.
