Dnipropetrovsk – Dnipro. The true purpose of de-communization

Днепропетровск - Днепр. Истинные цели декоммунизации

Ukrainian reform, decommunisation, launched by act No. 2558 “About the condemnation of the Communist and national socialist totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the prohibition of propaganda of their symbols”, does not who is struggling to seem. In the framework of the reform should be renamed all settlements, streets and other objects bearing the Soviet name.

On the one hand, it may seem that all this is aimed at strengthening the national identity, as well as an attempt to cut off the Soviet past, in order never to return. But all this is sheer demagoguery. Such an exalted motivation is coined only to the Ukrainian people supported this initiative, without thinking about the consequences and the causes. And the reasons are very prosaic.

Thus, Ukrainian politicians, liberalsim this bill, Dante Alighieri has already staked out the 7th ditch of the 8th circle of Hell. Yeah, cause stealing is corruption, although, like any name, the result is the same: the plunder of budgetary funds. And then even do not need to hide, durbana the budget for euphonic reason. And with this argument, one could argue, if Ukrainian politicians recently personally confirmed my hypothesis.

We are talking about the renaming of the city of Dnepropetrovsk in the Dnieper the city against the wishes of urban dwellers. Citizens, remember, wanted to leave the old name, merely changing the meaning. Thus, the former Ekaterinoslav in 1926 was renamed to Dnipropetrovsk in honor of the revolutionary and Bolshevik Grigory Petrovsky. The Dnepropetrovsk citizens wanted the name remains the same, but in honor of the Apostle Peter, not one of the leaders of the October revolution. However, the Verkhovna Rada wanted to spit on their desires, therefore, almost unanimously voted for renaming the city.

Днепропетровск - Днепр. Истинные цели декоммунизации

It would seem that in the Ukraine, with its orientation toward the European Union had to prevail democracy. Therefore, it would be logical to hold a referendum and to be guided by its results. It would seem that Ukrainian politicians could be accused of blind obedience to the letter of the new law and complete disregard of civil opinion. It would seem that it would be possible to sing praise praises to the people of Dnepropetrovsk, equating their desire to Pro-Russian mood. But it is not so simple.

In fact, the Dnepropetrovsk citizens did not want to renamed not because of love to the old name, but because of the fact that will follow the rebranding. In fact, the almost unanimous decision of the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada is not caused by nationalism, and banal greed. To rename the city is very expensive, and bled for the Ukrainian budget, the extra costs are completely useless. Also additional waste will fall on the shoulders of the residents of Dnipropetrovsk, who will have to change the passport and to reissue a number of other documents.

When adopting the bill, its authors insisted that any burden on the Ukrainian budget will not. It is very doubtful, but even if it is, then the expenses will fall on the shoulders of the city administration. And this, sorry, not a couple of hundred hryvnia. According to estimates of Ukrainian experts, the renaming of Dnepropetrovsk in the Dnieper, thanks to almost a million population, will cost the authorities $ 200 million! That is why the Ukrainians living in Dnepropetrovsk, and wanted their city was called in the old way – but there’s no additional expenses due to give the name of the new city meaning simply would not be!

But really didn’t understand MPs? All they knew. An indomitable desire, at whatever cost, to give the city a new name, caused solely by the desire to enrich themselves on this senseless project. And, mind you, “toponymic” revolution that threatens to cost Ukraine $ 1.5 billion, this is not the first project, involving the senseless waste of budgetary funds.

Днепропетровск - Днепр. Истинные цели декоммунизации

Suffice it to recall the project of Arseniy Yatsenyuk on the construction of a wall on the border with Russia. “European shaft”, as it dubbed the first (and maybe still so called) flew to Ukraine a lot of money. What is it all for? And why not? The Ukrainians wanted to get rid of the thieves in power, went to the Maidan, the thieves merely changed masks and tactics. Now the Ukrainian budget plundered quite officially. And, presumably, this process is not accompanied by rabid horse racing, due to the reluctance to be a “Moskal”.
