Deputy brigade commander of the APU caught in the arms trade in the Donbass

The Deputy commander of the 53rd separate infantry brigade of the Armed forces of Ukraine (AFU) was arrested for selling ammunition in the Donbass. On Friday, July 22, according to “Корресподент.net” with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General of the country.

According to the Supervisory authority, the officer, being a party to the hostilities in the Donbass, in June-July 2016 sold some civilian more than five thousand rounds of ammunition: cartridges of caliber of 7,62 and 5,45 mm and RGD-5 grenades. During this property he has received about 67 thousand UAH (about 170 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate).

On 6 July the General Prosecutor’s office discovered on the basis of a regiment of special function Ukrainian police “Dnepr-1” a large number of illegally exported from the conflict zone in the Donbass weapons, ammunition and explosives.

Head of Department of investigation of economic crimes of the Supervisory authority Vladimir Gutsulyak suggested that the weapons were intended for transportation to Kiev and transfer of criminal groups.

The Ukrainian army and other security forces engaged in an armed conflict in the Donbass. The confrontation in the region began in the spring of 2014 after Kiev’s attempts to suppress speech in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions caused by the change of power in the country.
