It is incredibly expensive real estate.
Japan is a country advanced, but not without flaws. For 130 million people they have a very small area, and in the center of Tokyo natatka this place feels like nowhere else. Let’s look at a typical apartment that are forced to crowd the inhabitants of the Japanese capital.
This tiny hut I took in his beloved Shibuya via AirBnB, but my Japanese friends assure me that it is quite typical for downtown. What is it like to live in a five-minute walk from Hachiko?
Tiny size start with the front door to the apartment. Tone has to duck not to hit his head on the door jamb.
Near the entrance waiting for us shelf “kawaii” – lovely cute things and characters, by which our hostess Keiko is trying to win us to his apartment, so we left her a good review. (I’ll tell you that this cheap trick worked!)

Near the entrance a tiny “hallway”, actually – Genkan (which I talked more in the post about the Japanese Slippers). Here it is necessary to remove outdoor shoes and leave wet umbrellas. Together on this patch barely turn around.
There’s a narrow corridor with doors on both sides. For these doors we will return, but for now, let’s go behind the curtain in the “main” room flats.
Here the only window on the street. Near it there is a double bed.
The space between zanavesochkoy and bed can be considered the living room. But Tonya temporarily uses it as his office. In fact, low table designed to around it sat three people. Instead of chairs on the floor for this purpose are cushions.
Most of the decorative things hanging on the walls, so as not to take precious space on the floor. The exception is the plant in a pot – it is on the floor. Greens – an important part of Japanese interior design.
Switch glued the Bunny. Another kawaii.
In the corner of this room stands a totem pole – refrigerator-microwave-kettle. Everything is very compact.
And the window behind the bed that is not just a window! This balcony. Yes, the Japanese are very fond of the balconies, and even in such small apartments they can be found. Unfortunately the balcony to climb over the bed for normal flow has no place.
The balcony is also tiny. There is a rod for drying clothes (no dryer in this apartment could not be and speeches).
The view of the neighbor’s house across the street. Here we see a traditional Japanese facades at an angle.
Great place for a selfie. Here you can see that half of the balcony occupied by conditioning.
And the inner unit condo attached directly above the balcony door again, so as not to waste space for nothing.
Back in the corridor. Remember all those doors? What do you think is behind them?
Right, there’s a small closet. Just in time for minimalism, and which is no more than ten things are.
But at the next door hides a whole kitchen!
Here and the sink and tiles, and dish drying rack. It is possible to live! The kitchen closes a door, so as not to be an eyesore when not in use.
To the left of the corridor is another door.
It leads to the combined bathroom and WC. In a tiny space the size of a toilet in the first class of the plane, manage to crowd the sink, bath and toilet.
On the sink and tub one faucet, it can be sent on request. And you can immediately shower on. Again, the Japanese economy!
The toilet’s the usual – you are no technological wonders that can be found in many toilets in Japan. Seeing this I’m really disappointed, and almost moved to an expensive hotel. After all, how is it – to come to Japan, and so you are not tempted ass?!
The last stich. For the sake of space, instead of the traditional router and the standard connection via cable, Wi-Fi in the apartment comes through here is a portable device connected to the mobile Internet. But you can take it with you, and safely go walking around Tokyo – the batteries will last for a few hours, and with the Internet easier to navigate.
As you would in a apartment to live? I first thought that it was a little too crowded, but after a week it even got used.
