Chinese officials have not missed the aircraft carrier, did not give an official explanation for the refusal. The situation clarified the Chinese state media.
News Agency of China “Xinhua” on 30 April published an article entitled “the Us military should not be surprised that “John C. Stennis” not allowed in Hong Kong”. The authors called upon Americans to ponder what actions made them unwelcome guests.
The article mentioned the reason of failure, but in typical “Xinhua” veiled manner: “Let’s see what the “Stennis” was engaged in recently,” writes “Xinhua”, and then lists a series of joint military exercises with South Korea and the Philippines. “It was a small punishment for the American military provocations”, ― quotes “Xinhua” anonymous Chinese military.
American carriers from time to time stop in Hong Kong without any problems. But the recent incident is not the first failure. In 2007, China denied in the Parking lot of two U.S. courts after the U.S. sold weapons to Taiwan.
The American carrier group caused a stir in China before arriving in Hong Kong.
