The cost of defense of USA in 2017 is required in the amount of $582,7 billion This statement was made by the U.S. Secretary of defense Ashton Carter during a condemnation of the military budget in 2017, according to the official website of the Pentagon.
Only Carter listed the five main global threats. In the first place was Russia, the second China, and third is North Korea. Iran got the fourth place. The threat of international terrorism Carter put only on the fifth place on my list.
The reason of superiority of Russia and the second place of China in the list is that both countries, rapidly developing military technology and producing modern weapons and threaten U.S. leadership in some areas. Carter noted that this trend must be adequately addressed in the defense budget.
“The current situation in the field of security is very different from what it was 25 years. It requires new investments and actions,” he said. According to Carter, the military budget expenditures for 2017 shall be $582,7 billion, with $523,9 billion base budget.
The day before, on March 17, chief of staff of land forces of the American General mark Milly said that at present the U.S. is not prepared to go to war neither with Russia nor with China: the holding of such campaigns would be too risky.
