Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov has demanded from the Commission a “clear and categorical position” for major energy projects to be carried out in the country.
The corresponding statement of the Bulgarian leader made at the meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk, reports TASS.
“Our concept of the construction of the gas distribution center is very good, this hub would benefit all countries in the region. Want to be assured the European Commission that the project fully complies with European legislation,” – said Borisov.
He also drew the attention of the Tusk on the “uncertainty” surrounding the project of gas pipeline “South stream” and inquired about the position of Brussels in relation to the prospects of the project of construction of a nuclear power plant “Belene”.
Earlier the Arbitration court of the International chamber of Commerce in Geneva ruled to compensate the Russian “Atomstroyexport” damages in the amount of 620 million euros in connection with the termination of the project.
“Bulgaria as a country of the European Union fulfills all its obligations, but also waiting to put its questions receive timely answers. All three projects are essential to implement the common energy strategy of the EU, the bulk of which is connected with diversification of sources and routes of supply (energy). None of the three projects is not a purely Bulgarian, they all have value for the EU and require solutions at the level of the European Union”, – said the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

On the eve of Russian energy Minister Alexander Novak said that Russia is ready to implement the gas pipeline project “South stream” in the case of guarantees from Europe on demand.

On 1 June Deputy foreign Minister of Greece Nikos Xydakis said that the project “South stream” has not died completely, its development is possible – despite the fact that this question was not included in the official agenda of the European Commission.
Russia in December 2014 due to the unconstructive position of the EU announced the rejection of the “South stream” worth 15.5 billion euros, which was to be held on the territory of Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary. The project was designed for delivery in Europe 67 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
