Biden called the priorities policy towards Russia

WASHINGTON, Aug 12 — RIA Novosti, Dmitry Zlatarev. The new us administration needs to implement against Russia combined policy of containment and tactical cooperation,” wrote the Vice-President of the USA Joseph Biden in a programmatic article for the journal Foreign Affairs.

“In relation to Russia, the United States should continue a policy that would combine the urgent need for deterrence on the one hand and sensible approach to tactical cooperation and strategic stability on the other” — said Vice-President.

Biden also accused Russia of “annexation of the Crimea and aggression in Ukraine”. The politician believes that the us support programme of the European allies in NATO and the deployment of new NATO forces in Poland and the Baltic States will strengthen the partners and will create a bulwark against further Russian aggression”.

“The next administration must redouble the U.S. commitment to strengthening NATO and cooperation with the European Union,” said Biden, adding that this should be done even under the condition of a British exit from the EU.

At the same time, the us Vice-President stressed that “the contribution to the key structures of the West does not mean a return to the simplistic thinking of the cold war, and the States should be “open to cooperation with Russia where our interests overlap”.

As an example of such a partnership Biden cited the conclusion of a nuclear deal with Iran and the new start Treaty. In addition, in his view, “it is difficult to assume how can be stopped the war in Syria without any agreement between Washington and Moscow.” In this regard, the politician noted the need for a “functional cooperation with Russia to maintain stability.”
