Ukrainian won the award for best screenplay.
The script Ukrainka Marysia nikitiuk “When a tree falls” at the ceremony 10 session of ScripTeast Award at Cannes film festival acknowledged as the best script from Central and Eastern Europe, written and developed in the framework of the screenwriting program of the Independent film Foundation, the press service of the State Agency of Ukraine for the movie.
“This year, the award is named after Krzysztof Kieslowski ScripTeast is awarded to the scenario with incredible cinematic potential. Heady inflorescence characters and narratives woven to create an extraordinary world – at the same time scary, magical, sensual and exciting, and always very real. A writer’s imagination plays brilliantly on the pages of the script, and we look forward to the on-screen realization of this vision of copyright”, – explains his decision to the Advisory Council.
In total, the program involved 11 projects from 7 countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
In addition to the honorary title, the script M. Nikityuk “When a tree falls” also received EUR10 million to further the production of the film.
“This is a very joyful event for me personally and for the project of the film as a whole. Although it is a big responsibility. Ukraine first participated in the ScripTeast program, and the victory of my script, I hope to start a good tradition for Ukrainian authors and Directors”, – said M. nikitiuk on the award.
The film deals with the company “Directory Movie,” producer Igor Savichenko, the start date is scheduled for August 2016.
The project is already being implemented with the support of the state of Ukraine and put into production, as became the winner of the 7th competitive selection of the state and received state funding in the amount of 10 million USD. Previously, the project noted the best pitching at Odessa international film festival 2014, and was presented at the Baltic Events, DAB, and MAIA Workshops.
