The Olympic flame of the XXXI summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, which was lighted on April 21 in the temple of Hera in Olympia, has come a long way from Greece to Brazil. National Olympic torch relay started on may 3 and will conclude August 5 at the stadium in Rio de Janeiro during the opening ceremony of the Olympic games.
The relay was held for all 26 States of the country and included about 250 cities, covering 90% of the Brazilian population. The fire covered more than 30 thousand kilometres by land, water and air, and the event was attended by the 12,000 torchbearers.
