Armenia accelerates the process of purchase of weapons from Russia

The government of Armenia approved the draft decision on implementation of provisions of the agreement with the government of the Russian Federation on granting to Yerevan of state export credit of $200 million to Finance the supply of military products. The agreement was signed in Yerevan on June 26, 2015, but only came into force on 10 February 2016, writes Sputnik.

As stated at the meeting, the Deputy defense Minister of Armenia Ara Nazaryan, the agreement Minister of defense Mr. Ohanyan instructed to Refine the list supplied Armenia with modern weapons and military equipment.

Defense Ministry of Armenia also requested to discuss and sign with the relevant authorities of the Russian Federation, including the Federal service for military-technical cooperation of JSC Rosoboronexport, the contracts for the supply of weapons, which will reflect the volume of supply, terms and prices.

According to the draft decision, the Minister of Finance of Armenia has been instructed to monitor the implementation of Armenia’s commitments.

The Central Bank of Armenia has been instructed prior to April 29, 2016 to exercise with the Russian “Vnesheconombank” accounting of loan and concluding an agreement on the technical procedure of settlement and to inform the Ministry of defence and the Ministry of Finance of Armenia within five days.

In accordance with the agreement on granting to the Armenian side a state export credit, Armenia buys Russian launchers of jet systems of volley fire “Tornado” and ammunition to it, anti-aircraft missile complexes “Igla-S”, surface complexes of electronic intelligence Executive “Avtobaza-M”, heavy flamethrower system TOS-1A with transport-loading machines, 9М113М guided missiles, rocket-propelled grenades RPG-26, Dragunov sniper rifle, armored cars “Tiger”, engineering tools and means of communication.
