In the new study, says that apraxia of speech may lead to the development of neurodegenerative diseases in which affects the neurons die in the brain.
Apraxia of speech may develop into a neurological disorder, as a result of which difficulties with eye movement, use of limbs, walk and increases the risk of falls. All these symptoms worsen over time.
“It is a speech disorder may begin with the fact that people can’t clearly pronounce some words. After 6 years he can’t talk and walk. It increases salivation. Some patients with progressive apraxia of speech will eventually become dumb,” said the researchers from the Mayo clinic in Minnesota.
Symptoms of apraxia of speech include: slow speech rate, inconsistent errors, such as incorrect pronunciation of words or sounds, and other speech disorders.
“As patients and even many health professionals are not able to timely recognize apraxia of speech, treatment usually begins in the later stages of the disease,” says Keith Josephs, a neurologist from the Mayo clinic.
“Speech therapy may not completely prevent or stop the progression of apraxia. But it can improve the pronunciation of certain sounds. People with apraxia of speech also may use computers or tablets as an alternative means of communication,” said the researchers.
The study was presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for the advancement of science (AAAS).
