US Senator criticized WADA for “inefficient” in the fight against doping in Russia

Сенатор США раскритиковал WADA за "малоэффективную" борьбу с допингом в РФ

MOSCOW, 21 Feb — RIA Novosti.

American Republican Senator John Thune sent to the World anti-doping Agency (WADA) the letter with the requirement to report on the investigation of the doping problem in Russia.

According to the Senator, WADA too long investigating the scandal with the Russian athletes caught in doping. In a seven-page letter to Tun reminded that the Agency for 14 years, received from the US government at least $ 25 million, and demanded that the head of WADA Craig reedy to explain why the start of the investigation, “funded by the Russian authorities doping program” began four years after the first statements of informants by the Agency.

Also Tun called for further “investigation”, beyond the winter Olympics in Sochi because, according to the Committee of Congress, the program of doping in Russia has been operating for three decades. He also asked to strengthen the control over sports outside the discipline of athletics.

Earlier, the Council of the International Association of athletics federations (IAAF) has upheld the disqualification of the all-Russian athletics Federation for the numerous cases of doping. This, in turn, means that the athletes from Russia will not be eligible to participate in an international competition.

On 21 June at a special session of the International Olympic Committee will decide whether the merits of each athlete’s individual approach or they must bear collective responsibility. Chapter IOC Thomas Bach said earlier that the Russian team may be suspended from the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro in full force.
