In Italy, arrested one of the most wanted Mafioso Ernesto Fazzalari, hiding from the law for over 20 years.
46-year-old Fazzalari was caught in the southern province of Calabria. In 1999, he was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment for several crimes, including murder, attempted murder, extortion and links with the mafia.
According to police, he was one of the gang leaders of the Ndrangheta the’Ndrangheta, one of the most influential mafia clans. This group is for a large part of the cocaine supply to Europe.
Fazzalari, did not resist arrest, officials said. At the time of arrest he was with a woman.
For the first time, Fazzalari escaped from custody in 1996.
The Italian government welcomed news of his arrest. Prime Minister Matteo Renzi wrote on Twitter: “Thank you to the judges and the police. Long live Italy!”
Fazzalari, was second after a wanted mobster, Matteo Messina Denaro, the leader of the Sicilian mafia Cosa Nostra.
