Moscow fell in the ranking of most expensive cities for foreigners

American consulting company Mercer published its annual rating of the most expensive cities in the world for foreign professionals. The leader of the list this time is Hong Kong, reported on the organization’s website.

Moscow has significantly passed its position, fallen over the year from the 50th to 67th place. Experts explain this by the weakening of the ruble. Saint Petersburg remained in the 152-th row, as in 2015.

The capital of Angola is Luanda, which occupied the first place from 2013 to 2015, moved to the second position. Experts explain such deterioration, the depreciation of the local currency.

In 2014, the Russian capital held in the list, in ninth place, in 2013 — the second in 2010-2012 fourth position. Prior to 2010, Moscow for several years headed the rating.

Only the survey by Mercer covers 209 large cities. When assessing the high cost of living for expats experts take into account more than 200 parameters — the cost of housing, transport, food, clothing, entertainment and other criteria.

As explained in the Mercer, their ranking is intended to help private companies and government organizations to calculate the value of cash compensation employees traveling on business trips abroad.
