In Lithuania, the former officer will be tried for espionage in favor of Russia

Pre-trial investigation was launched in December 2014. According to the materials of the investigation, the air force officer S. P. in 2012 was recruited by Russian intelligence. There are suspicions that on behalf of the Russians, he collected and passed through the citizen of the Russian Federation information in which was interested the Russian intelligence.

“It was information about activities of the Lithuanian army and the mission of the Baltic air patrol, flying military aircraft to the mission areas of deployment of the armed forces, military exercises, operations of the Lithuanian army and International security assistance forces NATO in Afghanistan, unmanned reconnaissance airplanes, the routes of their flights and locations”, – notes the edition.

Accused of espionage are under arrest since 29 Dec 2014. For this crime the criminal code of Lithuania provides for imprisonment from three to fifteen years.

With regard to the third defendant in the case, applied to it other measure of restraint, he is waiting for trial in freedom. For illegal possession of a large quantity of firearms, ammunition, cartridges, explosives and explosive devices, is punished with imprisonment for a term from four up to eight years.
