In Italy illegal immigrants will engage in archaeological work.
To attract refugees to work in the Museum complex of Pompeii in Italy offered leading archaeologist historic site, Massimo Osanna. As reported by Italian newspaper Il Mattino, the archaeologist turned to local politicians.
“The government already pays the refugees daily allowance, although they do not work in any sphere, told about his idea Hosanna. – If they are paid for what they do not do anything, why not use them for cultural objects?”.
According to the chief archaeologist of Pompeii, the refugees could help in the preservation of the ancient Roman city, for example, to remove the debris remaining after the archaeological excavations, or to care for gardens in the city.
Attracting refugees to work in Pompeii can also solve the financial problems of the Museum complex. The fact that the preservation and restoration of this object of historical and cultural heritage costs a considerable expenditure. At the same time subsidies from the government are extremely limited. Although Pompeii is one of the most visited tourist places in Italy, money for restoration is not enough.
A year ago the management of the Museum complex even announced the collection of funds necessary for the restoration of the mural room, which, presumably, could be done the second wife of Julius Caesar. However, the necessary 53 thousand euros has still not been collected.
